Prototypes
The cheapest moment to change software is before it exists. A prototype lets you, your staff and your users disagree with the design while changing it costs almost nothing.
A prototype is a set of linked screens that looks and taps like the finished app and does nothing behind the screens. ADA Lab builds one for N$3,999.99 in 1 to 2 weeks: up to eight screens, tried by you and two real users, one round of changes, and then a written scope with a fixed price for the real build. The prototype and the scope belong to you, and you may take them to any developer.
What is covered
- Up to 8 linked screens
- Opens on your own phone from a link
- The main journey from start to finish
- A session with two real users
- One round of changes
- A written scope for the build
- One fixed price for the build
- Yours to keep and to share
When you need this
- You have an idea and nothing to show anyone.
- Quotes from developers differ wildly.
- You need to convince a partner, a board or a funder.
- Staff will resist a system they had no say in.
- The build is large enough that a wrong start would hurt.

- JourneyThe steps a person takes, drawn in order
- ScreensUp to eight, linked so you can tap through
- Real usersTwo people try it while you watch

How the work runs
One sentence
We agree who it is for and the one thing it must do.
Draw
Rough screens first, then the linked prototype.
Test
Two real users try it. You see where they hesitate.
Scope
One round of changes, then the written scope and price.
Common questions
Is a prototype the same as an MVP?
No. A prototype only looks real. An MVP, a minimum viable product, is the smallest version that really works and that people can use. The prototype comes first and is far cheaper.
Can the prototype be turned into the real app?
The design carries over. The prototype itself contains no working code, which is why it is quick and cheap.
Is the fee taken off the build?
The prototype is its own piece of work with its own price. What it saves you is the cost of building the wrong thing.
Can I show it to investors or funders?
Yes. It is yours. A prototype people can hold explains an idea better than a document.
Describe the problem. We will send back a scope.
Say what is slowing the work down and who is affected. You get a one-page scope in plain words: what would be built first, how long it takes and what it costs. It is free, and you owe nothing if you do not go ahead.
